A must-read for beginners: A basic guide to cell phone store design

 In Cell Phone Store Design

With the advancement and development of technology, smart products have occupied an important position in our daily lives. We cannot do without them for work and entertainment. Smartphones, in particular, are a necessity for all of us. However, more and more cell phone stores have begun to open. The profits of mobile phone stores are also not to be underestimated. So, what elements are needed to open a successful mobile phone store? For newcomers to the mobile phone retail field, creating a mobile phone store that is both attractive and practical is an important first step to open up the local market. Different from simply pursuing visual effects. The design of a mobile phone store needs to balance brand display, user experience and sales conversion. From which angles should we start the design? The following four practical suggestions will answer your questions.

1.Clarify the core positioning and avoid deviation from design requirements

Before finalizing the design for a mobile phone store, we need to clarify two key areas. All subsequent layouts will revolve around these two key points. This is to avoid wasting resources.

  • The first is to identify the preferences of our target consumer group. If our mobile phone store primarily targets a younger demographic, we can collaborate with the designer during the design process to incorporate trendy elements. For example, we could design a luminous acrylic logo on the wall at the entrance. This would be both stylish and convey our brand philosophy. Secondly, we could incorporate rotating transparent display racks in the mobile phone display area. This design is very modern.
  • The second key element is to clearly define functional areas. What are the appropriate functional areas? There are four basic functional areas. The first is the display area. This area should occupy 50% of the space and is primarily used to display mainstream models. The second area is the accessories area. This allows customers to purchase headphones, chargers, and other items along with their mobile phones. The third area is the experience area. We can set up 3-5 operating tables in the store and ensure that the display devices have good network connectivity. The last area is the checkout area. The cashier area can be set up near the door but not blocking the entrance.

2.Reasonable space layout

The layout of a mobile phone store is crucial. A proper layout guides customers through the store naturally, thereby increasing product engagement. First, aisle width must be controlled. Main aisles should be at least 1.2 meters wide, ensuring two people can walk side by side without feeling crowded. Next, consider secondary aisles. These are the distances between display areas. They are generally no less than 0.8 meters wide to prevent customers from bumping into display shelves when turning. For smaller stores, a “U”-shaped layout can be used. This allows customers to browse all products along a fixed route.

The second point to consider is the height of the display stand. It needs to be appropriate for human anatomy. We typically place displays for core models between 1.2 and 1.6 meters. This is the area where customers’ eyes are most likely to remain focused. We also use a 45-degree tilted display stand to make it easier for customers to pick up the phone.

Finally, and most importantly, we need to leave ample flexible space so we can add new promotional displays based on future plans. We choose movable metal or wooden display stands. This allows us to adjust the display’s location based on new product releases. For example, during holiday sales, we can quickly set up a temporary promotional display near the entrance to attract passersby.

3.Visual design is the customer’s first impression of the store

Visual design is nothing more than lighting and color design. These visual experiences are crucial for leaving a lasting impression on customers. Therefore, we need to understand color coordination, lighting tones, and signage styles.

Let’s discuss color coordination. A color combination should not exceed three. For the primary color, we choose the brand’s signature color, such as white for Apple phones and red for Huawei phones. And the secondary colors, we use neutral colors, such as white, light gray, and beige. For accent colors, we typically use bright blue and orange. These can be used in promotional posters and new product labels.

Next, consider the design and distribution of lighting. We typically use spotlights in product cell phone display stand areas. The beam angle is controlled at 30 to 45 degrees. This directly illuminates the phone screens, highlighting the colors and clarity. In the experience area, we use soft downlights, so customers can use their phones for extended periods without glare. In the checkout area, we can add warmer lighting to create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere, providing customers with a pleasant checkout experience.

4.Selection of display counters

We’ve discussed the overall store design so far. The final point is also crucial. We all know that mobile phone screens and cases are exquisitely crafted and high-end. Therefore, choosing a high-quality, glossy display counter is crucial. A good cell phone display counter is like a good salesperson. So, what should we consider when choosing a display counter?

First and foremost, the choice of material must be made with professionalism and care. As you can see from the picture, the phone cabinet clearly shows its glossy finish and high quality. Phones displayed on the counter quickly catch customers’ attention. The combination of white and black clearly showcases the phones.

We used MDF with a glossy finish because the glossy finish creates a more lustrous finish. The display counters on the right row have storage underneath for phone accessories, making them very practical. The center countertop is made of the same material. The acrylic panel on the right is a lightbox display. This allows customers to see our promotional products as soon as they enter, effectively promoting the store.
